Franklyn Dzingai

Born in 1988 in Kwekwe, Zimbabwe, Franklyn Dzingai currently lives and works in Harare. He started his fine art studies at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe Visual Art Studio in 2009 and completed them in 2011 with a focus on printmaking.

Dzingai is one of the few artists in Zimbabwe who focuses exclusively on printmaking and has perfected the cardboard printing method using the reductive technique. Collage and drawing are often incorporated into his prints, which are typically vibrant in colour and ornate in design. He sources his images from books, magazines, newspapers, and family photographs—themes such as social interactions and personal memories permeate his work.

His mastery of the cardboard printing method has led him to win numerous awards at various shows and exhibitions in Harare. In 2022, Dzingai was one of two winners of the inaugural Africa First Art Prize at artHARARE.
