Eva Raath
Eva Raath is a textile artist based in Zimbabwe who works primarily with printmaking and domestic materials to reflect on personal and collective identity. Using mediums such as tablecloths and found textiles, Raath transforms everyday objects into artworks that speak to the lived experiences of women and the domestic sphere.
Her piece “A Woman’s Lot” exemplifies her approach—taking functional materials and imbuing them with deeper narratives about gender, labour, and transformation. Raath believes in art that is useful and practical, bridging the gap between the decorative and the meaningful.
After returning to Zimbabwe 15 years ago, Raath dedicated herself to the pursuit of artistic recognition, actively entering every exhibition and persistently developing her craft. She credits Raphael Chikukwa and Fadzai Muchemwa for mentoring and encouraging her to reach this point. Representing Zimbabwe at Venice marks a lifelong goal achieved.
