Gillian Rosselli
Gillian Rosselli’s preoccupation with humanity’s injustices fuels her artwork. Her deceptively soft paintings contain loud messages that reflect a range of socio-political issues including domestic violence, the legacy of colonization and the refugee migration crisis. Much of Rosselli’s work is influenced by her life in Zimbabwe, both an internal exploration of her identity and a broader examination of the country’s diverse societal challenges. Rosselli’s paintings unfurl layers of embedded meaning to the viewer through the layering of acrylic paint, sensitive use of colour and ambiguous contours. Rosselli has exhibited locally and internationally including the exhibition, ‘Five Bhobh – Painting At the End of an Era’ at the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa, Cape Town in 2018
